The riptide can take you anywhere, but where is anywhere? All in life is relative. If you're where you want to be, then it doesn't matter where you are. If you are not, then you might as well let the riptide take you anywhere. Then hope you end up somewhere safe, to heal and find a way forward. But there maybe a time you don't care where it takes you. During these rain storms, this could be one of those times... Having just finished teaching an exciting and successful absurd theatre module, it took me back to when I first encountered the genre and how much you explore the worth of life - and because you look at existentialist, dadaist and surrealist views in the sense of expressing them through theatre, it often ignites part of the brain that often lies dormant in the daily routine of 'normal' life. But then life goes on, sometimes on automatic. Until that is, something huge happens that brings you back to this almost pure state of raw existence. I read this statement written by a 19 year old student from somewhere in the north of England, "I'm so divorced from this world that I no longer know how to function within it. It is like trying to glimpse the most amazing sunset through eyes tightly shut" ... I empathise with this not only for how sad and desperate that student must of been feeling, but also because we so often get so caught up in what is expected of us, we forget how to cherish the things that can promise so much more to enhance our lives.
An existentialist once said "The only real decision a person has to make in this life is to whether to commit suicide or not"
There is nothing is more real than nothing.
The love was never fake.
To me, there was nothing ever more real.
But..
The riptide that has come, maybe beyond this Dragon's power.
I fear what will happen now.
I fear what this means.
I fear the riptide.
Oh to share a little winter wine...
